If we're not made of more than the sum of our parts Then there's nothing to fight for, to tell us apart From the soul of an animal stuck outside in the rain So there must be a secret, one I can’t see A special invisible thing inside me You’ve got one too, everyone knows that it's there But some of us use it to make more than just thoughts & prayers I wanna see under the skin, between the lines of the state that we're in Play me all the deleted scenes, mistakes & lies & all the hidden meanings Show me the view behind the stage door I crawl on my knees on the cutting room floor Filtering flaws, I'm begging for more I just want to know what everything's for I know it sounds mad, to believe in a thing That can't be detected by measuring                                                                               One day they'll find it and then you'll see that I'm right Until then, I just try to live my life in the light I wanna see under the skin, between the lines of the state that we're in Play me all the deleted scenes, mistakes & lies & all the hidden meanings Show me the view behind the stage door I crawl on my knees on the cutting room floor Filtering flaws, I'm begging for more I just want to know what everything's for

Tell me about you before me all of the things you wanted to be and how you’ll never be none of it now with me around weighing you down With my lie-like words sung on a line tried to believe in reason & rhyme For all the good it did for me then lost everything & started again Haunting my house, the ghost of mistakes at least I can do the work that it takes Made up my mind to be who I am living my life best as I can If that's asinine, it's all I can do I'd rather try, fail & lose Than give up now & feather a nest with everything needed for a comfortable death Sorry, you said how I could help something about taking you out Stuck in here with me all the time is enough to drive anyone out of their mind Come on, let's go for a ride or wander the streets, or follow the tide So, here’s to new beginnings, they're rare like happy endings Maybe make ourselves one up and see how long our luck can last
3.
Never say the word ‘gun’ in the opening line, if you don’t plan to fire it by the end                                                                    Empty words & pointless rhymes, I'm only asking for a friend A stake in the game, a dog in the fight, a snake in the grass, the stars in the night    I made all this up, it means nothing to me & I don't die inside when when everyone leaves Of course, that's a lie, every words real & I fill up my songs with things I can feel I bleed on the floor, there's more blood on the walls, I bled myself dry as I shot through the halls There's comfort in here & when closing time comes, I'll taste every drink at the bar Made my mark, down in the dark, raise a glass to the scars I said the word gun in my opening line, but I won't have to fire it 'til I'm done So I push my luck, listen for signs and maybe that day never comes
4.
Imagine a mirror that remembers what you see That knows you & reminds you every time you forget things Plays back your every moment in glorious detail A glass that finds you empty when you're trying to learn to sail Reflecting smoke & mirrors, breathing fire & ice Collecting cold confessions, I can't believe my eyes For every ghost I caught another's flown away, so Look out for the light & shade of every night & day Well, that's what memories like, a crueller camera lens There's a way to turn the tide & make it make more sense A red light in a darkroom, a flare on the sun The mark of something wild that you capture when it comes Reflecting smoke & mirrors, breathing fire & ice Collecting cold confessions, I can't believe my eyes For every ghost I caught another's flown away, so Look out for the light & shade of every night & day Reflecting smoke & mirrors, breathing fire & ice Collecting cold confessions, I can't believe my eyes For every ghost I caught another's flown away, so Look out for the light & shade of every night & day

This hotel room hums, so there’s no way I can sleep          At least I can hide my head away from the company I keep Down in here, when it's only you, Shade finds a way to turn every green light blue However far you've come, when there's nowhere left to be When you've made a bed you can't lie in let alone sleep That empty hollow echo in your bones You’re lucky just to have somewhere to go Spend the whole night talking to your phone Where everyone seems to have a place like home It doesn't mean they do, it's just words to say somehow a strangers likes make some things seem ok For someone to know me, however far away For anyone to care about how long I might stay That empty hollow echo in my bones I'm lucky just to have somewhere to go Spend the whole night talking to my phone Maybe one day I'll find a place like home
